Unbelievable shocking but brilliant!

According to the author, this may be his best book and while especially the "Natchez"-series stand out, this one shows the cruelty of the war and especially the sick and weird state of Germany during the Nazi-regime. This one is a true story of braveness, war and people striving towards all extremes - even the planned sacrificing of innocents. Not only as a German it's hard to finish this book without tearful eyes - and the warning about mankind going astray...
